Hi Daniel,

The reason I put the MODE CON in the .bat was because whenever I go to the COMMAND prompt, it is always in a 50 lines/screen mode and that is very annoying to read those lines all scrunched up. Unless there is another way of controlling that on start up?

The shortcut is a good idea. I did make one to go to the COMMAND prompt. In fact, I right clicked on the shortcut and clicked Properties and the Options tab and in the Display options box clicked Full screen. This eliminates the step of clicking Alt+Enter to expand the COMMAND window to Full screen. I didn't notice a way to change the Lines/Screen setting.

Thanks to buff1 for putting me on the NET USE command track. It got me to research that command and find several uses for it.

Phil.

QB45 on XP: Using a network/shared printer on QB

Post by I Daniel » Thu Aug 05, 2010 11:30 pm

Phil
The window default size is 80x25.
under Properties you will find it under -Layout.-
under -Option- I normally leave it as Window because it gives me a scrollbar while fullscreen doesn't. The window option does however only use half the width but the full height.
The only difference between choices for the Batch file and the Command Prompt is under General. But play around with the choices to find what u like best. When playing around I make two short cuts so if I completely mess up I still have a working copy.
If u have problems with a file not running properly u should check out some of the other recent postings. QB on Windows 7 (which includes Vista) is a good example. The latest nVidia display cards have problems with Screen 7 and 13, (The 320x200 screen sizes). DOSBOX should be used to run them if it will take too much reprogramming to convert to another screen.

Hi Daniel,

Under Properties, -Layout-, Window size does say Width: 80, Height: 25, but the screen still comes on as 80x50. Also with Full screen it does fill the whole screen. I couldn't work with a Half screen.

I don't need/like the scroll bar when arrow keys and Page up/down keys do the same thing. Scroll bars also imply Windows and using the mouse. When in DOS. I like to stay in the DOS mode and have nothing to do with Windows or the mouse. I'll have to see what new problems show up once I get to run more of the programs.

Boy, am I fussy!

I would like to run them in source coding on my XP. I have transferred all the programs and files. I can access QB45 and start the programs, but I do not seem to be able to print to any of my networked printers (LPT1, LPT2, LPT3) which are all controlled from one computer. How do I get around this problem?

Very, very belated. It was a well kept secret since 2000 by microsoft. See my post about Lpt work around Using WMIC
