I thought using START would allow your program to continue in SCREEN 0 window mode. It shouldn't even be minimized like graphics screens.

You can run almost any program using SHELL. You can even go to the web by shelling a link. Your default browser will take you there.

One possible problem when running other programs in QB is that not only is your program minimized, it freezes when in graphics fullscreen modes.

Well, I have XP SP3 and Quickbasic 4.5 runs fine on NTFS. I've heard that the NTFS configuration file may be corrupted on some PC's. There should be another copy in the Windows\Repair folder. You can create a batch file or run this command in DOS:

COPY C:\Windows\Repair\AutoExec.nt C:\Windows ...

Since you want to code QB on a 64 bit machine, you could try QB64 to do the job. It is a C compiler for old and new Qbasic programming. It also has new stuff for fonts, loading images, etc.

You MUST enter a SCREEN mode from 1 to 2 or 7 to 13!

SCREEN 12 is 640 X 480 pixels with 16 colors (0 to 15)
SCREEN 13 is 320 X 200 pixels with up to 256 colors (0 to 255)

SCREEN 0 is TEXT ONLY. It does not require a screen entry, so that is what you have been trying to use....

VISTA will only run Qbasic in text mode! NO GRAPHICS!

Delete the old PIF file and create a new Shortcut to Qbasic.exe or QB.EXE.
Get DOSBOX for 64 bit machines.

From the tech description, the device sends pulses to represent the temerature eliminating the need for an Analog to Digital converter. The problem would be the time duration needed to read the pulses.

The pulses need to be counted in regular intervals and converted to an alolog value accordingly ...

Probably not. You will need DOSBOX to run fullscreen programs in QB.

SCREEN 0 windowed programs should run ok.

OR you could try QB64 compiler. It can run QB code to make an EXE file. Just write the code in the IDE or load a bas file. QB64 also has some features such as sound file playing, fast and ...

I seriously doubt you can fit all of that into one screen, but you will need to create small numbers using graphics. Try DRAW and SCREEN 12. The smallest number block would be 2 by 4 high.

SCREEN 12 is 640 by 480 high.
