ItRe: Libray Question
typically thier should be a .LIB and a .QLB. the .QLB allows the program to be interpreted and the .LIB allows compilation. The QLB can be made from a a LIB using the LIB.exe. To use one library, simply load QB with the /L libraryname.QLB option. To use more than one, they must combined into one lib...

Re: Degrees in Qbasic
There are functions SIN and COS and TAN in qbasic, both 4.5 and 7(PDS). To convert a radian value to degrees, multiply it by 180/PI. It is not uncommon practise to build a lookup table of Trig funtions to speed up their uses to accessing ram rather than actually calculating every time.

Re: Memory Overflow Error
well, there seem to be quite a few gosubs. Do you use a lot of gosub/return structures, these can eat up a lot of stack space, and may be (part of) your problem. You may want to look at the CLEAR statement, with that, you can set the stack size. The width of the message board is a bit restrictive wh...

Re: SOUND x%, 0.00001
I think you may need to use assembly. Look for assembly tutorials and interrupt lists for system hardware, it should be fairly easy, a few lines of assembly at the most, i'd imagine.

Re: Memory Overflow Error
Well, another thing to check, I had a similar problem, is the compiler options. When you hit RUN- make exe, there are two debugging options to turn off. They are on the lower-left. Try turning these off.

Re: Validating Custom Dates in my own game
well, if u try to use the date$ statement in Qbasic and enter an invalid date, it will give u an illegal function call error. an error trapping routine could be used, but the error is rather generic. (u may already have other error trapping routines) A look-look up array of 1 to 12 could be used to ...

Re: COM ports on XP with QB4.5
well, u could always double- downgrade. Windows 98 with the explorer.exe replaced from win95 I heard is more stable than windows 98, and it would definately solve your com problems. I can only imagine the reason u want XP is stability. If the comp's only purpose is to use the com port for polling (i...

Re: Fixed Length Strings
I beleive that
DIM NAME (50) AS STRING * 25
should do the trick, but you lose the convenience of the string identifier, so NAMESTR may be a better name, mainly because NAME is a reserved word.

Re: Com port communication
yes, it is possible. I have created a unit that controls 8 AC outlets via parallel port for the purpose of controled lighting. The statement your are looking for is: OPEN "COMn: optlist1 optlist2" [FOR mode] AS [#]filenum [LEN=reclen] _ n is either 1 or 2, and identifies the communications por...

yes, that is what i mean. Mostly b/c i think syntax highlighting would be handy, for debuggin purposes, and also like u said, something to do. Especially b/c just yesterday i dislocated my shoulder skateboarding and will have sum time on my hands.

Re: QB + 16 Bit
I do not think that it is possible wit peek and poke, they only do one byte. I think the solution is using BLOAD and BSAVE to load or save X amount of data from the segment and offset you specify.
After BSAVE-ing from the 16bit source, you can BLOAD it into a string

Better QB 4.5 IDE
Anybody ever wish that the QB 4.5 IDE had syntax highlighting? I do. I have thought about making a code viewer/editor that employed it, (using QB of course) but I would also want to have the built in formatting and active syntax checking that QB has. You know, when you're missing a NEXT or and END I...

well, i dunno about the invalid data part, but to pick the drive easily:
PRINT "PRESS THE SOURCE DRIVE LETTER : "
drive1$ = INPUT$(1)
PRINT "PRESS THE DEST. DRIVE LETTER : "
drive2$ = INPUT$(1)
SHELL "copy " + drive1$+ ":\tmp\*.* " + drive2$ + ":\tmp"

another way to copy : press alt-enter to make the box a window and press the little dashed-square button. (win9x) then select the text you want. then press the copy button, or press ctrl-C. Downfall is, does not scroll down for you. Good point, can paste grafix + text into MSPaint or other graphics ...
