I assume you are using WinXP perhaps? I am and was advised to enter a line:
WIDTH 80, 25
at the beginning of the program. That fixed it.

Check out the width statement in the help.
Other possibilities exist.
The help, in fact, is quite good in Qbasic and QuickBasic, at least as
help files go. You should spend some time going through it.

Thanks guys (and/or gals) the WIDTH statement was the thing. Simple when you know.
