QB45 and XP

Post by fixxit » Sat Apr 28, 2007 7:14 pm

My old hard disc drive died and I installed XP on the new drive.

I downloaded a zipped copy of qb45 to C:\program files\qb45
I unzipped it to C:\program files\qb45\qb45
Is this an ok location location for these files?

When I run qb.exe the screen goes black except for the mouse cursor.

A few seconds later windows returns with the message:
16 bit MS-DOS subsystem
invalid startup directory
please check your .pif file

What is a .pif file, what do I need to put in it, and where do I put it?

Help !

Thank you,
fixxit

Until a more knowledgeable person responds, here's my opinion.

First, it really doesn't mattery in what folder you put all the QuickBASIC files. However, I would prefer to put those files in your C:/Program Files/QB folder. You can leave the zipped file right there, it doesn't hurt anything.

Second, go to your qb.exe, do a right click, and click on Create Shortcut. Once made, grab it and drag it to your Desktop, so it is easy to open QuickBASIC.

As to your black screen, I don't know of any reason that you should get it.

The shortcut fixed the problem

Ralph,

Creating the "shortcut" fixed my problem.
Quickbasic now starts right up after a few seconds of the black screen.

Thank you very much for the information.

It was my pleasure, and I'm glad that my suggestion worked for you, fixxit.
