I am considering making a pc with two hard drive receptacles, cd rw, NO internal hard drive plus the usual Ram etc...The pc will NOT be used on the Internet at any time...Three removable hard drives will be used in a Grandfather/Father/Son system of file updates/backups...All three will be loaded with the OS, application progs and data files so that each is a stand-alone backup for the OS and user progs/data files. (Here I am assuming that the OS can be setup so that one of the hard drive receptacles has to hold disk "C:" at boot up)
Questions: Can XP be loaded successfully onto three hard disks??...How to register the XP??...Or do I have to buy three copies of XP??...Has anyone had any experience of this type of system??...
Any advice will be appreciated.

I can't stand XP
Don't know if there are any issues with XP and removable hds; but, nonetheless, you'll have to register at least one copy XP anyway.
Here's my suggestion for your setup (other than don't buy XP ;D.)
Set up ONE Removable HD and if possible select to have Microshaft's "BACKUP" (don't add anything other than AV). I'll refer to this as HD1
Create emergency restore disk and do a "backup" of HD1.
Remove HD1 and place HD2 with emergency restore disk in drive A: and restore.
If this works, repeat for HD3. Also, let us know how it turns out--I'd love to know.

Re: Removable hard drives.
Hi MiggyD.
Sorry took so long to get back, had to wait for hardware to arrive. MS came to the party and only one copy of OS had to be purchased. Have been running new system in parallel with old for four weeks now and have done two "disaster" recoveries and all went real good. Assuming that the Father & Son copies had been destroyed it only took eight hours to recover from the Grandfather backup. Also have intalled removable hard-drive in home pc as backup for hardware.
Thanks for your interest

Re: Removable hard drives.
Sorry for the late reply...been on vaca too, and was about time I got some. ;D
Glad to hear it worked. I had done "something similar" about three days before you originally posted. So, I know how long it takes; luckily I only had four drives to do. ::)
